Manager's Corner

July 2005

There has been a tremendous amount of activity this summer. The Friday Night Barb-que and the Luau were both successful. Hampton Inn picnic day went well and the staff had the club back in shape in record time. We will say good-bye to one of our bartenders and a long time employee, Rachel, on July 12th. She is moving to Dallas and will be attending graduate school. Our head lifeguard, A.J. will be leaving on August 1st to join the United States Marines. Good luck to both.

The summer camp has experienced record attendance and our thanks go to Scott Corrente and Cheryl Twickler for running an excellent camp.

Look for more Friday night cookouts, the Woodstock Party, and the Margarita Mixer tennis scramble in July.

June 2005

The membership at Aurora is increasing at a tremendous rate and the attitude and atmosphere is at a very high level. There are still many things that need to be upgraded and many things that need to be improved, but we are definitely headed in an exciting direction.

The addition of staff for the summer months will help things run smoothly. Our department managers are:

  • ASSISTANT MANAGER and BAR: Chip Twickler
  • MAINTANANCE AND PORTERS: Ronald Hamilton
  • FRONT DESK AND BOOKKEEPING: Kathie Daigle
  • POOL AND LIFEGUARDS: A. J. Laudon
  • SUMMER CAMP: Scott Corrente
  • SWIMMING: Lauren Kapinus
  • VOLUNTEER IN CHARGE OF EVERYTHING: A. J. Turner

This should help everything run well. Everyone has areas of specific responsibility, but anything that needs taking care of is everyone’s job.

The pool water is in excellent shape. The sides of the main pool will take a while to look the way we all want it to. The owner of the pool company has been to the club several times and the fact that the pool is covered all winter causes the sides to stain due to lack of sunlight. As it is brushed and hit with sunshine the stains will dissipate and the appearance of the main pool will reach a level that we all will be proud of. The main thing is the condition of the water and that is excellent.

The baby pool will need to be refinished at the end of the summer. It is kept in good condition, but can go down in a matter of hours. The water level tends to get too low for the filter to be effective, so we are continuously adding water and also adding chemicals by hand to help maintain it. If the condition goes down please let one of the staff know and we will fix iit immediately. I promise it can go down very quickly.

May 2005

Lifeguards beginning Memorial Day weekend will attend the swimming pool. Until then your children may only swim in the pool under the supervision of an adult. The fitness room has a new rack of dumbbells and it may be used by anyone 16 years or older. A person 12 years or older may use the fitness room if they are under the direct supervision of a parent or a coach. Anyone under 12 is not allowed in the workout facility.

The Davis Cup tennis tournament is May 21 – 22. This is a major social event and a great way to meet new members of the club. In order for the previous statement to be true, we must have all the new members play in the event. All you need to do is sign – up and you will be placed on a team. It is open to players of all levels.

The soft drink vending machines will be removed by Coca-Cola and replaced by another company. We will still have Coke products, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who is tired of having my money stolen or pressing Diet Coke and receiving a Dr. Pepper. They have been out to fix the problems 8 times this winter and still can’t get it right.

The lot next to the club has been sold to a Baptist Church. They are hoping to begin construction within the next 6 months. This should be a great way for people to see the club. They won’t be able to avoid it with their church right next door.
